Blog Day: 6 Blogs I recommend

>> Sunday, August 28, 2011

So what up people? The ceiling (Sorry, I can't help it wtf). It's been a long time since I tried any blog contest so here goes. I will try to recommend 6 great blogs for Blog Day that I encountered.

So what's the lowdown on Blog Day? It was created "with the belief that bloggers should have one day dedicated to getting to know other bloggers from other countries and areas of interest" (Nuffnang, August 2011). Fuiyo, I still remember how to cite like a thesis. Not that I ever want to do it again wtf. Nuffnang will be celebrating the 6th Blog Day on 31st August 2011! Hey, what a coincidence! That's our Independence Day yo! Good timing wtf.

Check out my fav six bloggers (click on the title to go to their blog).

Hana's Journal Life

First off, as I am (trying ever so hard) learning the Japanese language for fun and my own benefit. I love to read Japanese manga, watch anime and recently I struck gold finding this blogger's artwork. I discovered this Malaysian blogger few months ago and have been reading his/her blog. I cannot imagine being an illustrator and the blogger really helps me sees it.

What's cool about the blog is that, the writer knows what he/she is illustrating about. Dubbed as a Japanholic, the blogger really took his time to learn Japanese art style . You can actually see that most of his post features a drawing or two in Japanese manga drawing style. Also, let's not forget that the blogger did his/her own anime. Simple but the drawings are good. Songs and anime recommendations are there too. If you like something about the Japanese, it is worth checking out this Japanholic's blog.

Nasi Hangit

Next on the entry is this dude. Food blogger he is not. If I need some entertainment, I'll just head over here. Seriously, the stuffs he posted up are funny and he can blog quite well too. Quick to catch my attention with many ways, I always ended up clicking on "Read More." The blogger definitely has a different sense of humour compared to mine.

Best part is that he took the effort to find a lot of funny images, gif or test to entertain us. He is always surprising me by playing a trick on some of the posts. I know that I fell for it quite a number of times (why am I so gullible wtf). These many funny entries are kind of hard to find and it is cool to have it all in one blog. Bring out the prankster in you by using his entries!

Gloson Blog

Check out this 13-year old Malaysian kid named Gloson as he can teach you a thing or two about utilising social media. I swallowed my ego just to read his whole blog learning about blogging. Hey, I am not a professional like this little dude. Currently he is staying at a hostel so don't expect updates on a daily basis. But when he does update, you get smarter. The age gap is huge and he look at things in his own perspectives.

Did I mention that at age 11, Gloson has his own funny poem book? Wait, he has TWO books published! Yea, thanks for making me feel useless wtf. Anyway... That's credibity! Reading his blog, all I know is that ONE, he is more mature than me wtf and TWO, I know more about how to write in a blog and what to do with my blog with the help of social media.

Project Ideas

Yes, yes, I know I am a your typical guy reading things I don't understand but I can't help it. This blogger is suggesting ideas. Not just any ideas but projects that you can work on to benefit others too. It covers from students projects to iPhone apps to mechanical projects. What I love about it is that he actually thought of the ideas and put a fresh look at it. Heck, I can never think like that.

If you are a mechanical, engineer, biology, chemistry and whatever student, you can find his blog very useful. Don't worry as there are tips and videos on how to perform it. The only sad thing here is that I need to Google the terms used (another blog that challenged my intelligence, great wtf). Let your teachers and lecturers jaw drop to the floor when you complete his projects.

Travel and Photography

Let me present to you Mr. Herbert Wong's blog. Personally, I love photography as a hobby. I can take decent pictures, that's all wtf. Anyway, this Singaporean guy, really loves to travel. He carries a camera with him and make use of it while travelling. The results? Magnificent pictures. He sees things that I can't imagine while taking photographs.

I rather not call them pictures or photographs because it feels more like "memories" to me. A very crisp and clear memory of places he's been to. The reason why I like his blog is because of the pictures. You get to see things you cannot see in Malaysia and the picture really takes my breath away. It actually feels that I am there looking at his scenery.

The Mobile Photography Blog

All the way from India, here's a blog that I can really appreciate. We've all known that with a decent camera or DSLR, you can capture great pictures. And that's true as you can find a million photography blogs. This blogger, Raghavendra Chakravarthy, decided otherwise. He take pictures with a camera phone. Surprisingly, there are quite a number of good pictures out of it.

One thing I like the most is that the pictures are not edited. There is also no help from any apps, be it Instagram or Vignette. Just purely Nokia 5130 Xpress Music. I never thought that someone can actually produce very good image from it but he manages to do so. The quality varies but you can see that he really loves it. I hope to find more blogs like this in the future.

Well, here are my 6 picks for Blog Day. Hopefully you will support them by visiting their blogs!

Extended review: Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini

>> Saturday, August 27, 2011

I am guessing you are starting to miss the extended review, no? Okay, so I was hoping that someone reads this blog (sad). Anyway, here's another one of my favourite phone: Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini. Wow, am I siding with Sony Ericsson now? Well, if they keep on producing better phones, I may say that I am a fan. But for now, let's see if Mini is the new Biggie.

You got Punk'd by the display

Here's a surprise. Given the fact that it is a HVGA display (320 x 480), I cannot believe that the colours and picture quality look superb here. Seriously guys (and girls)! It emits really clear and crisp picture (not radioactive, don't worry or I'll be dead too). This is mainly thanks to the Reality Display by Bravia Engine. Great job fooling us. We really appreciate it and no sarcasm there.

Cheese's the word

With a 5-megapixel camera, you wouldn't really expect much but that's where they catch you off-guard (again)! Personally, the camera is great and is one of the main reasons why I want this smartphone. The colours after taking pictures looks awfully happy. What I meant to say was, the colours are really bright. That's not a problem though.

Also, the physical camera button is a nice feature, too, with the people from Sony Ericsson sticking to a nice, soft button. The camera button is sensitive enough to fire off shots without causing you to jerk the phone and miss the magic moment. Pressing it is like popping bubble wraps. It's that fulfilling!

Everyday I'm shuffling

Well, only if I don't embarrass myself. The reason I am "shuffling" is because of the music quality from this tiny phone. It is really good! The bass is right and it is literally music to my ears. Play the alert tone a million and one times and I will still call it great music. And I am not talking through earphones. The speakers are surprisingly good.

You only get one speaker and it is located at the center of the back part of Xperia Mini. With that said, you can actually feel some stereo going around with the speakers. Of course, to maximise that pleasure, just plug in your earphones or Bluetooth device.

So so software

Of course with SE, you are bound to get your own suite of apps. My favourite app/widget from them is always the Track ID. Heard a tune you'd love but can't figure who sang it? Well, just whip out your Xperia Mini and tap Track ID. Record for a moment and discover! Also, by placing its widget on the homescreen, you are guaranteed a faster accessibility.

Again, they provide you with Timescape. This time, they tweak it a little by adding three options when you put the widget on your homescreen. That doesn't really help a lot, or at all, as it is still a graphically demanding widget. Even on a 1Ghz phone like this. The only reason why you want to use is to "beautify" your phone. Think of it as a hair extension/fake lashes/lipstick/you-should-get-it-at-this-point.

The rest

Finally, another part that is not in Mobile World Magazine, is the video player. The Xperia Mini's recording is fairly good but too bad I can't say the same for the video player.

It was mentioned that the player is able to support mp4 and wmv formats. That's fine as it does, quite well too. But too bad you can see the phone struggling with wmv formats. If you put a large files or those with long playback, you'll notice the player struggling. Don't get me started on the avi formats. Nothing! Nothing at all! It won't play them.

Truthfully (and not sneakily), I can see this happening. Sony Ericsson and Google did not really touch the video player department and stuck with Android's default player. You can play. You can pause. You can skip. That's all.

Well, nothing much more to reveal as you can find it all in Mobile World Magazine.

Price: RM699

Words from author: Notice in two of the pictures, the Xperia Mini wallpaper is orange? Hey, it fits the blog!!! Argh, I know, I know. The blog's colour is so fugly. Anyway, please support our magazine. Yours truly writes there. *big eyes*

I wish upon a star

>> Friday, August 19, 2011

Aww, look at that picture, sooooooooooo cute.
And you hope this post was something like that, yes?

Sorry to disappoint but no, this is not a cutesy post wtf. I want to complain! Seriously. Look into my eyes and you'll know. Or just look at the nice bunny up there wtf. BTW, that rabbit does not eat carrots.

I wish... Really wish... Even if it has to be upon a star... That our freaking roads have no more potholes. Seriously. Driving over it is just a horrible feeling. Both physically and mentally.

Let me get straight to the point:

Every time I go down a pothole, my heart sank. Not only my car. My heart literally sank. It's like the feeling when a roller coaster went down really fast, suddenly. We really don't need to go to theme park any more when we can have it free over here. Imagine driving on Jalan Roller Coaster 26/12 wtf (personally I recommend Jalan Roller Coaster 76/33 wtf).

I categorise potholes into three groups:

Group 1 is the regular pothole. You drive over it and go "DAMN!" and then, "Meh, I passed it."

Group 2 is the Team Potholes where there are many potholes on the road. Driving over them will cause tonnes of shakiness that whatever food you ate were digested instantly. After driving pass Team Potholes, you feel like shitting wtf. OK, maybe we call it passing motions (geddit? geddit? say yes wtf)

Group 3 is the deceptive pothole. From a distance it looks like a regular pothole. It's just there hanging around. No harm done when you drive over it. WAIT (cliffhanger jeng! wtf) That's when you see.....

That's not all! I don't drive those big cars like Ford or Toyota so I kind of squeeze into My Young & Very Innocent (Myvi wtf) car. Ever heard of inertia? Yes, my great great great great grand uncle, Sir Isaac Newton discovered that. He was half Chinese wtf. When my car goes down the pothole, I'll hit my head before I go down with it wtf.

See, you short people have it good. I don't discriminate. We tall people do have their disadvantages wtf.

So, my wish is for our Transportation Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha to fix our roads. Don't worry, I won't let people know that we are related, that's why I added "h" into my Khong wtf.

Toilet pee peeves

>> Friday, August 12, 2011

I am in a hygienic mood. I feel so clean wtf.

So let's talk about toilet. Yes, THE toilet! No, you won't get to know the colour and shape of my shit (shape like "C" wtf) but you'll know the top three things that irritates me in the toilet.

Don't ask why I put this wtf

Let uncle Calvin tell you so you know what to do when he is around. Don't worry as I won't ask for a 5-star service (red carpet would be nice though wtf).

Ok, firstly I really really cannot tahan if the door knob/lock/latch/round thingy is wet. Seriously. Can you imagine yourself touching this cold, wet, maybe pee stained door knob? Can you? Sure, I may be wrong but there are guys who don't wash their hand after peeing! I cringe at the thought of it.

Yellow because pee stained wtf

So what I normally do if I touch it. I scrub my hand so hard almost ripping it hoping to remove my pee stained skin. Then, I'll curse silently under every breath wtf. And I'll grab a tissue to turn the door knob and push it open. The tissue will self-destruct afterwards. Hey, don't blame me! I don't know your hygiene routine! It's not like I take my time studying you while I am in the toilet. The Pak Cik guard will arrest me. Then Wei Lian will be laughing at me as they drag me away.....

Another horrible (combination between horrible and terrible, wait, it looks the same wtf) thing I cannot stand (or even sit) is people standing next to me when I pee. If the restroom has only two urinals then that's fine. Even though I prefer them to wait for me to finish. I take only less than 30 seconds to finish la! Unzip, pee, shake and keep wtf. (*edited: zip back wtf)

If there are five urinals and you choose to stand beside me, I cannot "let go" until you go away. Really!! Even during mid-stream it can miraculously stop WTF! I harbour real hatred to those who chose the urinal beside mine when I pee midway. Even after I stop and continue peeing, it's like I never went! The "feel" is still there! Then I'll curse silently under my breath again wtf.

And the last but definitely not least issssssssssssssssssss....... the shape of the urinal wtf. No, hear me out here! Normally, urinals are suppose to protect my little brother from other's pleasure wtf. But nowadays, I really don't get this, but they decided to arch the bottom part of the urinal outwards that it is impossible for you to hide your pee pee!

Let me demonstrate old school:

See, that's decent. Enough space to spread your legs and I can easily hide too. Hide towards the left? No problem! Right? Nothing to it! Me like. Nothing but me and my piss wtf.

PHAIL urinal:

Cannot find it la. Go Sunway Pyramid see wtf.

Yes, it is so wide and it protrudes outwards!! I understand the protruding part as it works to catch our drips but not the wider ones. I cannot spread my legs that WIDE! Because of that, I need to stand further from the urinal. Think of it like peeing in the public wtf.

Well, that's all. To all guys, pee cleanly and remember, distance between us peeing is one urinal. If not, hold it in wtf. Cannot die la.

TV ad offensive?

>> Tuesday, August 2, 2011

As the fasting and hungry ghost period happen on the Merdeka month, an 8TV ad surfaces:

How do you feel after watching this? Sure, you plan to take it with a grain of salt but to think that people are this oblivious is indeed stupid.

Here's the background of the story, on the 29th of July 2011, 8TV released 3 Ramadhan advertisements. And that's that right? Well, not so as the users on Facebook posted the video up claiming it to be racist. Slowly but steadily, it managed to generate quite a number of backlash. Everyone claimed the ad is very distasteful and "racist."

Well, racist is not the right word for it. Personally, this can be viewed as offensive. Not everyone goes "Wahhhhhh" or "Ohhhhhh" in the market. The one responsible for the ad really and I mean REALLY over-emphasize it.

The thing is, we know what to do during the Ramadhan month and of course we will watch our own action too. The ad should have shown creativity and not stupidity.. Thankfully, 8TV pulled out the ad out yesterday. And there is a proper apology given out to the public from CEO of Media Prima, Ahmad Izham Omar and 8TV too (Check it out here).

I love to quote this Youtuber comment:

Here's the lowdown of the ads in words:

The first PSA shows the girl shouting and being very loud at one stall owner while asking for a discount on another.

The second PSA shows the same girl eating greedily with Muslim customers watching her.

The third PSA shows the girl (again) wearing a sleeveless blouse, with her shoulders and arm-pits pixelated.

All the scenes are then followed by messages urging viewers to not be loud and obnoxious; not be greedy nor eat in public; and not wear revealing clothes.

The girl then acts “appropriately” after all the messages.

How's that for a PSA. Well, that's not the only case if you remember. All and all, let's just be thankful that this is over and try to keep an open eye for any more ads like that. Together we can stop offensive ads.

*Update: The video is now unavailable. Sorry =(
*Update 2: Thanks to the forces of good, I found a substitute. =)
*Update 3: Okay, apparently, no more. Try finding it at lepak.my people!
